This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th International Workshop on Groupware, CRIWG 2004, held in San Carlos, Costa Rice in September 2004. The 16 revised full papers and 13 revised short papers presented together with a keynote paper were carefully reviewed and selected from 71 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on knowledge management, awareness, support for collaborative processes, collaborative applications, groupware infrastructure, computer supported collaborative learning, and collaborative mobile work.
Key Note -- On Theory-Driven Design of Collaboration Technology and Process -- Knowledge Management -- Divergence Occurrences in Knowledge Sharing Communities -- On the Convergence of Knowledge Management and Groupware -- Applying Group Storytelling in Knowledge Management -- Ranking the Web Collaboratively and Categorising It to Produce Digital Collections -- Understanding and Supporting Knowledge Flows in a Community of Software Developers -- Awareness -- A Framework for Asynchronous Change Awareness in Collaboratively-Constructed Documents -- Increasing Awareness in Distributed Software Development Workspaces -- Ariane: An Awareness Mechanism for Shared Databases -- Design of Awareness Interface for Distributed Teams in Display-Rich Advanced Collaboration Environments -- Support for Collaboration Processes -- Combining Communication and Coordination Toward Articulation of Collaborative Activities -- ThinkLets as Building Blocks for Collaboration Processes: A Further Conceptualization -- Bridging the Gap Between Decisions and Their Implementations -- CreEx: A Framework for Creativity in Cooperative Problem Solving -- Collaboration Applications -- SaGISC: A Geo-Collaborative System -- Blind to Sighted Children Interaction Through Collaborative Environments -- Implementing Stick-Ons for Spreadsheets -- Empirical Evaluation of Collaborative Support for Distributed Pair Programming -- Groupware Infrastructure -- Communicating Design Knowledge with Groupware Technology Patterns -- Adaptable Shared Workspace to Support Multiple Collaboration Paradigms -- A Decoupled Architecture for Action-Oriented Coordination and Awareness Management in CSCL/W Frameworks -- Reusing Groupware Applications -- Distributed Dynamic-Locking in Real-Time Collaborative Editing Systems -- Computer Supported Collaborative Lerning -- A Model for a Collaborative Recommender System for Multimedia Learning Material -- An Integrated Approach for Analysing and Assessing the Performance of Virtual Learning Groups -- A Tailorable Collaborative Learning System That Combines OGSA Grid Services and IMS-LD Scripting -- A Model for CSCL Allowing Tailorability: Implementation in the "Electronic Schoolbag" Groupware -- Mobile Collaborative Work -- Representing Context for an Adaptative Awareness Mechanism -- Opportunistic Interaction in P2P Ubiquitous Environments -- Mobile Support for Collaborative Work.
