Fritz Marti (1894-1991) came from Switzerland, where he earned a doctorate in Philosophy, to The University of Oregon in 1923. He was a committed scholar in the tradition of German Idealism. This book describes his search for intellectual freedom in the United States and shows American academic life during the early twentieth century.
